Border Patrol agents arrested a MS-13 gang member Friday morning as he tried to enter the United States illegally.

Officials said 35-year-old Hugo Guevarra, a Salvadoran national, was seen entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico around 11 a.m. Agents arrested him about 22 miles west of the downtown Calexico Port of Entry.

According to the release, Guevarra was taken to the El Centro Border Patrol Station where agents discovered he had numerous gang-affiliated tattoos. He openly admitted that he was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) criminal street gang out of El Salvador.

Gueverra is in Border Patrol custody and agents said he will be further processed for his illegal entry into the United States.
