“Clear the Shelters” offers low-price pets

Homeless dogs and cats will be ready for adoption Saturday at drastically reduced rates in the hope that Riverside County residents will open their hearts and doors to one or two new four-legged friends.

Three of the county’s animal shelters will participate in the region- wide “Clear the Shelters” event, during which abandoned and neglected canines and felines will be available to take home for $4 to $6.

According to county Department of Animal Services spokesman John Welsh, the typical cost to adopt a pooch — including vaccination, spay/neuter and microchipping fees — is $105.

“This is a great event that we’re proud to be a part of, and we can’t wait to see more of our animals find their way into loving families,” said animal services Director Robert Miller.

The following facilities will participate in “Clear the Shelters”:

— Coachella Valley Animal Campus, 72120 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms;
— San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, 581 S. Grand Ave.; and
— Western Riverside County Animal Shelter, 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley.
