Phoenix police officer wounded in convenience store shooting

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a female Phoenix police officer has been critically injured after a shooting at a gas station and the suspect is still being sought. Police Chief Jeri Williams says the wounded officer was undergoing surgery Thursday afternoon. The name of the officer wasn’t immediately released, but Williams says she is a 24-year veteran of the police department and “is a wife and a mom.” Williams says the 10:30 a.m. shooting stemmed from a domestic violence call from a woman who is in a romantic relationship with the suspect. Police say the unidentified woman left her home and went to the gas station to talk to officers about the situation. Police say the suspect drove into the parking lot and fired at officers.
