Suspect arrested in DHS shooting at Casa Del Sol apartments

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department has arrested a suspect from a shooting outside of the Casa Del Sol apartment complex on December 1.

Christopher Spivey, a 26-year-old from Desert Hot Springs, is accused of opening fire on three males sitting inside a parked car at about 1:30 p.m. that day. The complex is located at 66655 4th Street.

Nobody was injured in the shooting but the car was riddled with bullets. Officers said the three men were taken to the police station for questioning and Spivey was identified as the shooter.

Seven days after the shooting, the Coachella Valley Gang Task Force served a search warrant at Spivey’s home in the 66100 block of First Street at about 5 a.m.

Spivey was arrested and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on charges of attempted murder.

When the shooting was first reported, officer said the men in the car shot back at the suspect, but police haven’t said if any charges will be filed against them. It appears they were acting in self defense at this point.

Officers said the shooting appeared to have stemmed from a previous conflict.
