Coroner’s office ID’s man shot and killed by police in Indio

The Riverside County Coroner’s office has identified the suspect killed in an officer involved shooting in Indio over the weekend.

38-year old Juan Perez from Coachella was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.

It happened Saturday near Avenue 48 and Madison Street by Grace Chapel.

Police were responding to a report about a stolen golf cart when they tried to stop Perez.

Police say Perez was armed. They aren’t saying who shot first.

Perez died on scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.

The officer involved in the shooting wasn’t injured.
