Man arrested for indecent exposure, leading police on chase

KESQ

A 27-year-old man from Indio was in custody Wednesday evening, accused of indecent exposure and leading police on a bizarre chase through Indio.

The chase ended Wednesday afternoon when the man tried to lane-split two vehicles stopped at a red light on Fred Waring Drive at Adams Street. But, the man was driving a silver Dodge van, and officers said he collided with both vehicles and the van became disabled after it struck a curb.

The police chase began after officers took two calls about a man masturbating in a silver van Wednesday morning around 10. The first call pointed them to Oasis Street, and then a second call directed them toward Monroe Street and Fred Waring Drive, where the driver sped away from officers.

Police decided to end the high-speed pursuit due to safety concerns, but the man was involved in the crash minutes later and officers were able to arrest him at the scene.

A man and woman in the two vehicles that were hit by the suspect complained of minor pain but they didn’t need to go to the hospital, officers said in a release.

The man was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Officers said he’s out of custody on a $100,000 dollar bond. His next court date is April 27th.
