Sprinklers help contain fire at DHS restaurant

CAL FIRE and Riverside County firefighters were called to a fire alarm at a Desert Hot Springs restaurant on Thursday afternoon. The fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m.

Officials said the fire sparked in the attic of Castaneda’s Restaurant, located in the 13900 block of Palm Drive. Fortunately, sprinklers in the restaurant were able to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 has learned that the fire most likely started after a kitchen appliance became too hot. The fire then burned up a wall of the restaurant and spread to the attic.

Nobody was hurt.

Unfortunately, there was significant water damage and the restaurant is closed until repairs are made.
