UPDATE: Suspicious device in Indio not an explosive

A hazardous device team was called out to an Indio neighborhood where a suspicious package was found Tuesday evening.

The package at Martha’s Village and Kitchen was later determined to be a home-made electronic device, similar in appearance to a destructive device, according to a spokesman from the Riverside County Sheriffs Department.

It was discovered shortly before 8:00 p.m.

Residents were allowed to reenter the building at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, after being evacuated and having to wait in a nearby Sunline bus.

A bomb squad was called in to investigate.

The area around Date Avenue between Calhoun and Indio Boulevard was being closely monitored.

Indio Police also staged at the nearby Coachella Valley Ice Company, and the FBI was called in to assist local authorities.

There was no word on any possible charges.
