CVWD to hold first of several water rate hike workshops

The Coachella Valley Water District is considering higher customer water rates, and will hold the first of a series of public workshops Thursday to talk about them.

If approved, the district’s first rate hikes since 2010 would go into effect in July.

The additional revenue would help pay for a $250 million capital improvement project which would included new treatment facilities and infrastructure.

The CVWD is also dealing with additional costs due to California’s drought, and is working to comply with new state drinking water standards for Chromium 6.

Thursday’ meeting runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the district’s administration building in Palm Desert– at 75515 Hovley Lane East.

Additional public workshops are planned for March 28 and April 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the CVWD Coachella office at 51501 Tyler Street.

Workshops are also set for May 2 and May 11, at 5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, again in Palm Desert at the district’s administration building.
