Firefighters on scene of Thermal wildfire

Firefighters were working to contain a vegetation fire in Thermal Thursday morning.

It was first reported near Grapefruit Boulevard and Pierce Street at 3:16 a.m. A KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News crew at the scene said the fire was burning on both sides of Grapefruit Boulevard.

Firefighters were having to bring in water to fight the blaze because there were no fire hydrants in the area.

Police had shut down Grapefruit Boulevard to traffic because of the hazard and firefighting activities. The fire was burning palm trees and dry vegetation around them, and had jumped Grapefruit Boulevard.

No injuries were reported, and there was no word on a cause.

No homes were threatened.
