Varner Harbor Boat Launch Ramp reopens at Salton Sea State Recreation Area

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday afternoon to celebrate the reopening of the Varner Harbor Boat Launch Ramp at the Salton Sea State Recreation Area, which is just south of North Shore on Highway 111.

“The dredging of the channel and repair of the boat launch ramp at the state park is an historic event,” said Salton Sea Authority Chairman John J. Benoit. “It has been many years since the public has been able to launch their boat from here. This ramp will increase recreational activities at the Salton Sea.”

Officials said the project is a Public Private Partnership with the California State Parks, Salton Sea Action Committee and DEVCO. The dredging and repair work was performed by SSAC’s Board Member Doug Veirs and his company DEVCO.

According to the release, SSAC is a nonprofit corporation organized to support Salton Sea Restoration efforts. SSAC’s sister organization, Revive The Salton Sea (RTSS), is a nonprofit corporation organized to support California’s efforts to improve and maintain the Salton Sea for the enjoyment and well-being of Coachella Valley and Imperial Valley residents and visitors.

The Board of Directors of SSAC and RTSS see the Salton Sea as a resource that cannot be lost.

SSAC and RTSS currently play an important role in the restoration of the Salton Sea planning by agreeing to supplement State funding for completion of the Salton Sea Authority’s (SSA) Salton Sea Funding and Feasibility Review: Benchmark 5 .
