11 volunteers honored at 24th Senior Inspiration Awards ceremony

Riverside County and all nine cities of the Coachella Valley took time to honor 11 outstanding senior citizen volunteers at the 24th annual Senior Inspiration Awards ceremony in Palm Desert Friday morning.

More than 600 people were expected to show up to the event at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa hosted by Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit and co-hosted by CBS Local 2’s Brooke Beare and Patrick Evans.

Organizers said this event was established in 1992 to recognize the community’s unsung heroes; senior citizens 65 years of age and older who inspire others through their volunteerism and contributions to the community.

The 2016 honorees are:

Mary Rodriguez and Andr Kaz (Riverside County)
Louis (Lou) Perez (Cathedral City)
Jose Valadez (Coachella)
Alicia Moya (Desert Hot Springs)
John Rosellini (Indian Wells)
Blanche Martinez (Indio)
