Easter celebrations around the Coachella Valley

Faithful flocked to services Easter Sunday to celebrate the holy day in the Coachella Valley.

Some Christian leaders said the message this Easter Sunday is the same.

“As desperate as life sometimes seems, there’s hope on the other side of the desperation,” said Gerald Sharon, the lead pastor at Southwest Church.

Christians throughout the valley flocked to their respective churches to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Its a thrill that this many people, thousands and thousands, try to convey the message that because Jesus rose from the grave their grave is not a final residence, its temporary housing,” said Father Howard Lincoln of Sacred Heart Church.

He said it’s important to remember the reason behind the holiday.

“You remind people that the resurrection of Jesus is not a myth. It’s not a superstition. It’s the truth. And because of that, everyone has the chance for eternal life,” Lincoln said.

It was a packed house at one of many services at Southwest Church in Indian Wells.

“We want people to know that resurrection is not just about what happens after we die and it’s also what happens when we live. No matter what people are facing,” Sharon said.

Sharon said activities for families and kids make going to church enjoyable for every age.

“We have lots of activities, just because we people to know there is a great opportunity to enjoy life,” Sharon said.

Church members said they agree.

“It’s a gathering and family orientation. It’s really hard to do that nowadays and people don’t have the time,” said Kirsten Bowman.

As much as it’s important to remember the reason for the holiday, kids will be kids, with some saying their favorite part of the day is the Easter egg hunt.
