2nd Annual Sports Heroes Luncheon

In 1966 it started with just a simple building and about 100 kids, and now celebrating their 50th anniversary the Boys and Girls Club of the Coachella Valley shows no signs of slowing down

“That’s what we do, we work with children, we work with youth to create a special day like this, it’s important for the organization.” Jim Duchatte, CEO of the club said.

Events liketoday’s 2nd annual Sports Heroes Luncheon help keep a dream alive for so many area kids, providing the chance that many never have

“It mean’t a lot to me, I had friends coming up in the Boys and Girls Clubs, I came up in the Boys and Girls Clubs myself, so it means a lot to be here. Helps them stay active in sports and out of trouble really.” added Tayler Hawkins, a stand out athlete for Palm Springs High School.

The event honored sports greats like Hall of Famer Paul Warfield, Coach Marty Schottenheimerand Indio’s very own Ed White, who brings his own creativity to the table.

“I like bring art, it makes me feel better to watch them paint a painting, and see the results of what they can do. Show them something they never thought about doing, and be able to do paints or go someplace they have never seen and experience something that is different is really important.” White said.

From former professional athletes, to those that could be the future of their sports, talented local high school athletes were also honored for their work and maybe one day will be here as a Coachella sports hero.
