Indio police warn risks of wristband resales during festival season

Even on the last day of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, some people are still doing their best to cash in.

After spending two days at the festival, Makayla Davis and Lexi Campbell decided to see if they could make some of their money back by selling their wristbands online for $200 each.

Wristbands cannot be tampered or broken, according to the Coachella Festival Code of Conduct, making third party sales difficult.

Indio Police Department says selling wristbands violates the code as well. They actively investigate the illegal sale of counterfeit wristbands.

“From my understanding, Goldenvoice’s is once you register a wristband, that credential is issued to that person and they’re nontransferable,” says Sgt. Dan Marshall of Indio Police Department.

Sgt. Marshall says Goldenvoice is one of the only large promoters to ever take legal action against a scalper, but this does not seem to stop under the table sales that don’t always end well. He warns of the potential risks of buyer beware and working with strangers who could have negative or even dangerous intent when going through a third party.
