Parolee evades capture, another warrant suspect arrested
A parolee with a felony warrant for his arrest evaded sheriff’s deputies in Mecca, prompting a search that led to another man’s arrest in the area, sheriff’s deputies reported Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, deputies were patrolling the area of Fifth and Lincoln streets in Mecca when they saw John Macknight, 26, of North Shore, who was known to have a felony warrant for being a parolee at large, said sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Reichle.
Macknight allegedly fled from deputies by running into the backyards of homes in the area. Despite sheriff’s deputies setting up a perimeter that included the assistance of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, Macknight escaped, Reichle said.
As deputies searched for Macknight, another man with felony warrants was found and arrested on Sixth Street. Daniel Rosas, 20, of Mecca, was arrested on suspicion of outstanding warrants for burglary, vehicle theft and evading the police. He was booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio, where he was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Anyone with information on Macknight’s location was asked to contact Deputy Munoz of the sheriff’s Thermal station at (760) 863-8990.
According to court records, Macknight has prior felony convictions for burglary, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, drug possession, battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
