Locals brace for potential record heat as summer begins

A heat wave set in across the Coachella Valley on Sunday and many will be looking to stay cool and beat the heat these next few days as the first day of summer is now upon us. There is record heat expected in the 7-Day Forecast.

Temperatures already reached 111 degrees Monday by 10 a.m. Emergency officials said to always keep hydrating and find shade whenever you’re outside in this kind of heat. First responders said they also recommend ice packs to help stay cool.

“In these circumstances, if you stop sweating during these conditions, then something most likely is going wrong. You want to make sure you’re always sweating outside when it’s this hot. When you start to lose that, several things can go wrong,” said EMT Anthony Rodriguez.

If you plan to be out in the pool or a local aquatic center, bring sun screen and spend some time in the shade. If you plan on going hiking these next few days, which is definitely not recommended, you’ll want to avoid an afternoon hike and go as early as you can.

Also make sure to stay hydrated this week.

Lastly, try not to use large appliances like washers or dryers during the hottest part of the day.

There is going to be a lot of demand to run air conditioners for the next few days so you should keep your unit at 78 degrees or warmer to avoid rolling blackouts.
