The Spa Resort Casino brings the beach to the desert
The Fourth of July weekend is underway and here in the desert we’re getting a taste of the beach without having to drive to it.
The first “Sandsational Summer” event kicked off in Palm Springs Saturday.
“We thought why not bring the beach to the desert for the Fourth of July weekend. We have a lot of sand, we don’t really have as much water, although if you come here we’ve got some cooling systems misters all over,” said Kari Smith, the assistant general manager of the Spa Resort Casino.
There’s no beach getaway without a sand castle and organizers spared no expense hiring professional sand sculptors.
“They came down and spent the past three days building this sand sculpture that really represents Palm Springs. You can see Marilyn. Everyone really misses her, so we wanted to bring a little bit of Marilyn back,” Smith said.
It’s the spa’s way of giving visitors an alternative to the beach.
“We wanted to have a reason for people to come to Palm Springs on these weekends. If you are familiar with the coast sometimes on the Fourth of July weekend you’ve got June gloom, you don’t have the beautiful weather we have here,” Smith said.
It was an afternoon filled with food, refreshing drinks, activities for kids and live music.
“I love music. So that’s what got me, if they didn’t have music I don’t know,” said Myra Burns.
The event bringing together locals and visitors, all in the spirit of celebrating America’s birthday.
