High desert deputy accused of having sex with inmates

A former San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy is being held on $50,000 bail after accusations he had sexual contact with numerous female inmates while they were incarcerated at the Morongo jail.

The investigation into Brian Derryberry’s behavior began July 1, when law enforcement received information that the deputy sheriff was “engaging in sexual activity with a female adult” while she was being held in jail, according to a news release issued late Friday night.

Members of the department’s Specialized Investigations Division began looking into the allegations and amassed “credible” evidence showing Derryberry, 24, was involved with an unspecified number of women.

Jail records show Derryberry was arrested at 5:05 p.m. Friday at the courthouse on White Feather Road in Joshua Tree.

Derryberry was hired with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since April 2014, assigned to the Morongo Basin Station, and according to the department, no longer works there.

He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto for sexual activity with a confined consenting adult and oral copulation with a confined consenting adult.
