Cathedral City sets bar for Nine Cities Blood Drive Challenge

Lifestream’s fourth annual Nine Cities Blood Drive Challenge kicked off in Cathedral City on Saturday at the community library where 72 units of blood donations were collected.

The remaining eight cities participating in the Coachella Valley blood drive now know the donation target they’ll be looking to surpass, as four of them hold their challenge drives this week, and the final four wrapping up the blood drive challenge next week.

Nine City Blood Drive Challenge remaining schedule:

Defending champion Indio will hold its blood drive Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Indio Teen Center, 81678 Avenue 46
Coachella’s blood drive takes place Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Coachella Senior Center, 1540 Seventh Street
Indian Wells will have its blood drive on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Indian Wells Club Golf Resort, 44500 Indian Wells Lane
Palm Desert’s blood drive is on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palm Desert Community Center, 43900 San Pablo Avenue
Palm Springs will have its blood drive on Thursday, July 21 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership Headquarters, 3111 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way
La Quinta follows on Saturday, July 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at La Quinta Wellness Center, 78450 Avenida la Fonda
Rancho Mirage will have its blood drive on Tuesday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rancho Mirage Public Library, 71-100 Highway 111
Desert Hot Springs will conclude the Nine City Blood Drive Challenge on Saturday, July 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Desert Hot Springs Health and Wellness Center, 11750 Cholla Drive

Officials with Lifestream said All Nine Cities Challenge donors receive a complimentary, single-day admission ticket to Wet ‘n’ Wild Palm Springs, valid through October 9, which is the closing day of the 2016 season.

Donors also are automatically entered into a weekly drawing for a pair of Southern California CityPass tickets. Each ticket is valid for one free admission to Legoland, one free admission to Sea World, and three days’ “park hopper” admissions to Disneyland/Disney California Adventure Park. Tickets are valid 14 consecutive days including date of first use, officials said in the release.

Walk-ins are welcome at all drives but appointments are suggested and may be made by calling 1-800-879-4484 or by visiting www.LStream.org.

According to the release, LifeStream is the exclusive provider of blood products and services for Desert Regional Medical Center, Eisenhower Medical Center, JFK Memorial Hospital, Hi-Desert Medical Center, Palo Verde Hospital, and Bush Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms.
