Locals react to Sanders’ endorsement of Clinton

With Senator Sanders’ endorsement of Secretary Clinton, local Bernie supporters have to decide if feeling the Bern will keep them from voting for Hillary Clinton come November.

“As a Bernie supporter, to many of us that was disappointing,” says Steve Finger, President of the Progressive Democrats of the Desert.

While Finger says he will support Clinton when he goes to the polls, he is worried for what other Bernie supporters will choose.

“Many of them will support the Green Party. Many will unfortunately drop out of the political process just being disappointed as anybody would,” says Finger.

Elle Kurpiewski, Office Manager for the Democratic Headquarters of the Desert says not voting is the worst case scenario.

“I hope they will recognize what the alternative will be, and the alternative will be someone who is completely unqualified to be the President of the United States, and I’m not really sure he’s qualified to be the President of anything,” says Kurpiewski.

David Weiner has been a local voice supporting Sanders’ presidency. He’s a fan of the proposed Democratic platform, but sees it as a compromise.

“The one thing that I was very disappointed did not make it in was the opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I think there’s a lot of risks in there to us as a country.”

But he is a fan of policies proposed on minimum wage and college tuition.

Weiner says he’s ready to do whatever it takes to make sure Clinton is the next President, as opposed to Donald Trump.
