Indio CHP offers free teen driving class
On Wednesday, July 27, the Indio California Highway Patrol Office will hold its next Start Smart teen driving class at 6 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol Indio Office is located at 79650 on Varner Road.
Officers said the class is designed to help prepare teens for the situations they may come across as new drivers. Topics include tips to avoid collisions, safe driving habits, dynamics of a collision, consequences of a poor choice behind the wheel, testimonies of people tragically impacted by incidents involving teen drivers, parental roles, responsibilities, legal ramifications and civil liabilities affecting teen drivers and their parents.
Parents/guardians are required to attend the class with their teen drivers. Teens will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the course, for which some insurance companies will officer discounts to new drivers.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports the number one cause of death for teens is from automobile collisions.
A reservation is required to attend the class. Parents must call 760 772-8911 to sign their teens up for the free class.
