A home invasion robbery occurred on Sunday morning in the 76000 block of California Drive in Palm Desert. The victim awoke to find a 23-year-old man inside his house, holding a shotgun, according to the Palm Desert Police Department.

Sheriff’s deputies said the suspect, who was later identified as Cody Riddle, is accused of riding a stolen bike to the home, taking items from the home, including the victim’s vehicle, before driving away from the area.

Authorities said nobody was injured during the robbery.

Deputies caught up to the suspect at 12:51 p.m. after someone reported a suspicious person near San Clemente Circle and San Gorgonio Way in Palm Desert. Authorities said they saw Riddle riding the bicycle described from the robbery.

When deputies tried to stop Riddle, he took off, running through backyards in the area.

Deputies received some help from citizens and were able to arrest him soon after near San Antonio Circle and San Gorgonio Way, according to jail records.

Riddle was found to be in possession of a loaded shotgun and methamphetamine. The victim’s vehicle was recovered in the same area.

Riddle was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio and is facing nine felony counts, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, carjacking, making terrorist threats, and violating his parole.

He’s due at the Larson Justice Center on Friday, July 29 for his initial court appearance.
