Local Boys & Girls Clubs get unexpected bounce
A local business owner’s gift to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department meant an unexpected athletic windfall for Valley Boys and Girls Clubs.
Deputies were approached with an offer from the manager of the Vons in La Quinta. Take 30 donated soccer and 20 volley balls and distribute them to children around the Valley.
The deputies chose to divvy them up between the La Quinta, Coachella and Mecca Boys and Girls Clubs.
“You see the overwhelming support of different agencies that come together to bring such great gifts to the kids here at the Boys and Girls Club,” said Siah Nix, Unit Director of the Boys and Girls Club.
Kids smiled from ear to ear as uniformed Sheriff’s Deputies hauled in large sacks of brightly colored balls to the gymnasium at the La Quinta Club Tuesday.
“It’s extremely important to let the kids know that we’re human,” said Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Captain Roy Griace. “We talked to them. We have kids just like them. They get to interact with us and talk to us and get to know us. I think it’s very important.”
