Indio Police Sergeant improving after weekend motorcycle accident

An Indio Police Sergeant is improving after being involved in a crash on Sunday. According to the California Highway Patrol, just after 3:30 pm, the sergeant was riding a motorcycle in the area of Jackson Street and Odlum Drive when he was struck by an SUV being driven by 53-year old Margaret Kendric, from Orange California.

Kendric reportedly was making a left turn from northbound Jackson to westbound Odlum directly in the path of the Indio motorcycle officer, striking the left side of the bike causing the officer to be ejected. The unidentified Indio Police Officer was then transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with serious injuries, but not life threatening.

Kendric was not injured, but she was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio. Her bail was set at $50,000 and she was bailed out of jail on Monday.

Authorities said she is due back in court for arraignment on December 5 at the Larson Justice Center.

The crash is still under investigation and anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call Officer Diaz at (760) 772-8911.
