Rollover crash takes out hydrant, floods street

The Cathedral City Police Department shut down Date Palm Drive after a man crashed his car into a fire hydrant flooding the road.

The accident happened at about 8:45 p.m. on Date Palm just north of I-10. Police shut down the road from I-10 to Varner Road.

According to CCPD, the driver lost control of his car which rolled onto its roof and took out a fire hydrant. Water shot more than 100 feet into the air and was making contact with power lines. The road was flooded with thousands of gallons of water.

The driver was alone in the car and was not injured. Police do not believe he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
