Hazmat investigates after greenhouse evacuated due to illness

The Riverside County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team is investigating an illness that evacuated a greenhouse near Thermal Monday morning.

Eleven people had already left the greenhouse in Oasis before firefighters made it to the scene, health officials said in a news release. It turns out that only one person was taken to the hospital with minor symptoms and five people denied medical attention.

The illness was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at the greenhouse located in the 82000 block of Johnson Street.

Firefighters evaluated three other patients with minor symptoms at the greenhouse. The Hazmat team is working to determine the cause of the illness.
