Campers line up for 99-cent TVs in Palm Springs

A 99-cents store will celebrate its grand opening in Palm Springs on Tuesday by selling 32-inch flatscreen LCD TVs for 99 cents apiece to the first nine customers in line. A line of customers began camping out in front of the store as early as Sunday to make sure they can get in on the savings.

As of Monday morning, one day ahead of the grand opening, there was at least a half dozen people planning to camp overnight.

The store, which will be open Jan. 17 at 102 S. Sunrise Way, will offer a slate of 99-cent deals to its first round of customers, in addition to the flat screen TVs. After the first nine customers take home those TVs, the following 99 customers will be able to purchase a scooter for 99 cents.

The next 99 will be able to take home 99-cent coffee makers, and the next 99 customers can buy 99-cent digital cameras.

Other grand opening specials will follow over the next three days, including a 99-cent blender sale for the first 99 customers in line on Jan. 18, according to the company.

The Palm Springs store will also feature a perishable food department carrying produce, dairy and frozen foods. The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
