Deputies: 29 Palms shooting suspect is dead

Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that the shooting suspect at a Twentynine Palms motel Tuesday morning has died.

Police were surrounding the Motel 6 located in the 72500 block of Twentynine Palms Highway Tuesday morning after a shooting took place inside. When deputies knocked on the door of the suspect’s room, shots were fired at authorities and the suspect shut the door, according to the sheriff’s release.

When authorities opened the door following the gunfire, they found the suspect dead inside the room. No deputies were injured during the shooting. We’re working to get more information about the details of the shooting.

The suspect’s identity hasn’t been released at this time. The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate.

The California Highway Patrol said its officers were helping the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department provide a perimeter around the Motel 6 during the standoff, which ended at about 8:35 a.m.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updated information as soon as we hear back from the sheriff’s department.
