Woman struck by Amtrak train in Riverside

An Amtrak train struck and critically injured a pedestrian in Riverside on Wednesday, and the accident was affecting some Metrolink service, authorities said.

The woman was injured about 6:40 a.m. at the Pierce Street crossing, which is south of Magnolia Avenue, and was taken to a hospital, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The tracks were closed between the Riverside La Sierra Station in Riverside and the North Main Corona Station in Corona while an investigation was conducted, Metrolink reported. The Metrolink 91/PV Line train 705 to Los Angeles was delayed an hour and 45 minutes.

Also, the Metrolink IEOC Line 809 train to Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo was canceled. However, passengers were advised that they could board the IEOC Line 811 train, which was delayed about an hour.
