PSFD releases rainy weather advisory to prepare for storms

The Palm Springs Fire Department has released a rainy weather advisory as more storms are expected to make it to the Coachella Valley throughout the weekend into Monday.

The National Weather Service in San Diego is projecting that three weather systems will move through the area, brining 1.83 inches of rainfall. The largest amount of rain is expected to hit on Sunday and last through Monday.

Fire officials said residents should call 911 for any life-threatening emergency situations.

The city recommends residents follow these safety tips:

During lightning, get indoors and do not use electrical equipment Do not drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown

The main weather threats with this storm are:

High gusts of wind Heavy rains with accumulation of 1.83 inches possible Possible thunderstorms

Actions residents should take:

Know alternate travel routes in case of flooding If you’re in a low-lying area, determine if sandbags would be beneficial. Ten unfilled sandbags per resident are available at Fire Administration, 300 N. El Cielo Road from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A limited amount of sand is available at the North City Hall parking lot near El Cielo. You should bring your own shovel Check your vehicle. The windshield wipers and tires are two of the most important items Now is a great time to check your disaster kit and update it as necessary
