Local man’s family evacuated due to threatened NorCal dam failure

Nearly 200,000 people remain under evacuation orders as California authorities try to fix erosion of the emergency spillway at the Oroville Dam in Northern California.

On Monday, KESQ and CBS Local 2 met with a Rancho Mirage resident who used to live near the Oroville Dam for about 20 years. He’s sharing his insight of the landscape with us and his concern for his niece, whom was recently evacuated from the area.

The man’s niece spoke to us over the phone, describing her feelings and the chaos surrounding the situation. We’ll have her story on KESQ News Channel 3 at 5 p.m.

Katie Widner also spoke to Desert Water Agency to see how the Oroville damn situation could affect Coachella Valley residents, and local water rates.

Watch her report below.
