Modernism Week 2017 is now underway
Modernism Week, the annual celebration of midcentury modern architecture and design in Palm Springs, kicked off Thursday, laying the foundation for more than 250 events scheduled throughout its 10-day run.
Tours and wine tastings will be the first offerings available to the public, with Thursday’s events to include walking tours through the heart of Palm Springs, a shuttle-guided tour of the historic Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage, and a look into the desert homes of celebrities both past and present.
Thursday’s slate of events will conclude with the Modernism Week Opening Night Party, with cocktails and live music available to those 21 and older.
Other notable sights during Modernism Week, which runs through Feb. 26, include a look inside the Aluminaire House, the United States’ first all-metal house, which was recently transported from New York City to Palm Springs, where it will likely make its permanent home.
The 17th annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale will feature more than 85 premier national and international decorative and fine arts dealers, book signings, music, and a wide collection of furniture and home decor for purchase.
The event will also include a sneak preview of the upcoming three-month Desert X art exhibition with a panel discussion from a number of the artists involved in the endeavor.
Some events are sold out, but tickets for many others, including several free events, are still available.
