Date Festival stabbings leave 4 injured

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was investigating the stabbing of four people at the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival in Indio Sunday evening.

According to Deputy Armando Munoz, authorities received a call at approximately 7 p.m. regarding an assault with a deadly weapon at the 46200 block of Arabia Street.

Three men and one boy were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

An active investigation was ongoing. Munoz said it was not immediately clear whether the victims were attending the festival or coincidentally happened to be on the property near the event.

A news release from Sheriff Stan Sniff said, in part, that the incident “appears to be an isolated incident and no other festival goers were injured.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would be patrolling inside the fairgrounds daily to ensure the safety of the public.” Munoz said the investigation was ongoing and there were no suspects currently in custody.

No other details were immediately available. Anybody with any information is asked to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Thermal Station at 760-863-8990.

Marketing manager for the fairgrounds, Kimberly Wright, said operations were normal following the incident.
