Ukraine, Russia trade more blame on threats to nuclear plant

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Fears about the potential for a radiation leak at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant are persisting as Ukrainian and Russian authorities reported missile strikes and shelling of the plant and nearby areas. A local governor in Ukraine said Saturday that Russian Grad missiles and artillery shells hit two cities just 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Russian military, meanwhile, claimed that Ukrainian shelling hit the plant’s grounds, including a building where nuclear fuel is stored. Russian forces occupied the nuclear power plant early in the 6-month-old war but local Ukrainian workers have kept it running.
