Several wind-driven brush fires spark across Coachella Valley

Cal Fire was called out to two separate brush fires in the Coachella Valley Friday morning. The first ignited in North Palm Springs and the second fire sparked in Whitewater. And we’re now hearing there may be another brush fire that just sparked near Highway 111 and I-10.

The fire in North Palm Springs sparked near Dillon Road and Indian Canyon Drive at about 10:15 a.m. Fire officials said it had the potential to grow to five acres but they were able to contain it to one acre. Crews are still on scene but appear to have the fire under control. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates through the afternoon.

The fire in Whitewater ignited at about 10:28 a.m. and was also contained to one acre. Wind gusts played a factor in spreading the fire, officials said.
