Suspect arrested in armed robbery at a Yucca Valley Payless

During the investigation, police identified Tony Tupper as a suspect in the robbery and issued a warrant for his arrest.

On June 1st, deputies identified Tupper’s vehicle at a residence in the 5000 block of Elata Ave in Yucca Valley.

Deputies contacted Tupper at the location and he was taken into custody.

Deputies searched Tupper’s residence and found additional evidence related to the Payless robbery.

Tony Tupper was booked at West Valley Detention Center for PC 211, Robbery and is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Deputies are searching for an armed robber who stole cash and basketball shoes from a Payless shoe store in Yucca Valley on Monday night. The suspect was wearing a yellow and orange Tommy Bahama-style shirt and a tan camping hat when he held up the store clerk, according to the sheriff’s release.

The armed robbery happened just after 6:30 p.m. at the store located at 57990 29 Palms Highway.

According to deputies with the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Department, a sheriff’s aviation unit circled the area and deputies set up a perimeter around the store in search of the suspect, but they weren’t able to locate him.

The suspect is described as a white man between 40 to 50 years old. He weighed about 170 pounds. In addition to the Tommy Bahama-style shirt and tan camping hat, he was wearing khaki pants and a black backpack when he ran away from the business.
