Motorcyclist identified after deadly crash near Idyllwild
Authorities identified a 53-year-old motorcyclist who died Thursday when he lost control of his bike on a curve along state Route 243 near Idyllwild and was hurled onto the roadway. The coroner identified the victim as Frederick Carlson of Hemet.
The fatality happened about 7:40 a.m. on southbound 243 at Marian View Drive, on the south edge of Idyllwild, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Darren Meyer said Carlson was rounding a bend in the road when his 2014 Victory motorcycle, similar to a Harley, skidded out of control, causing the biker to be ejected onto the pavement.
“There are more questions than answers at this point,” Meyer said. “With these un-witnessed crashes, it’s always like that. There were skid marks at the scene, but we’re not certain how fast he was traveling.”

A passing motorist came upon Carlson lying in the roadway and called 911. Paramedics from the Idyllwild Fire Protection District pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The highway was partially closed for more than two hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted.
