DHS woman seriously injured after colliding with big rig on Dillon Road

A 21-year-old woman from Desert Hot Springs was seriously injured after her car collided with a big rig on Dillon Road Thursday afternoon.

Officers said Dalilah Castillo-Herrera was driving a Nissan Versa northbound on Dillon Road, south of Berdoo Canyon Road at about 12:15 p.m.

Steven Rodriguez, a 25-year-old man from Indio, was hauling two trailers in a big rig when he made a left turn out of a driveway on the east side of Dillon Road, north of Dalilah’s car. Dalilah’s car collided with the left side of the rear trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Castillo-Herrera was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Rodriguez wasn’t injured in the collision.

CHP officers said Dillon Road was closed in both directions for about an hour and 15 minutes while authorities investigated the crash. The collision is still under investigation.
