Crews extinguish fire in East Valley

Update: Fire crews extinguish brush fire in Thermal after containing flames to less than one acre. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Crews with Cal Fire/Riverside County were battling a Vegetation fire in Thermal Saturday evening.

Firefighters first arrived to the area near the intersection of Pierce Street and 66th Avenue at 4:18 p.m. Crews said at least half an acre of heavy fuel had burned.

The roadway on 66th Ave. in the area was expected to be closed for several hours. The fire was expected to be fully contained in 2-to-3 hours. The cause of the blaze is unknown.
