TRAFFIC ALERT: Freeway closure impacts Indio Traffic

UPDATE 5:05 a.m.: Freeway lanes have reopened and traffic is back up to speed. Motorists can expect more overnight freeway closures at the Jefferson Interchange construction project later this week.

Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Tuesday morning in Indio as construction crews worked on the new Jefferson Street overpass.

The freeway’s westbound lanes were shut down at the Jefferson westbound exit, and traffic was detouring to Varner Road, then back onto the freeway at Washington Street.

Eastbound freeway lanes were open.

Motorists coming from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street in La Quinta were also having to use Varner Road to get on the freeway westbound.

The overnight and early morning project was set to be completed by 6 a.m.

More overnight construction closures are planned at the Jefferson Street Interchange through Friday morning.
