Border Patrol finds 38 pounds of meth hidden in car’s seats
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a man and a woman at the Highway 86 checkpoint on Monday after discovering 38 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the seats of a Toyota Camry.
A 23-year-old woman from the United States approached the checkpoint just after 3 p.m. when a canine team alerted to her car. During a secondary inspection, agents found several sealed packages hidden in comparments in the car’s seats. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the Border Patrol’s release.
The methamphetamine weighed 38.06 pounds and is estimated to be worth $121,792.
Agents didn’t release any details about the man who was arrested. The woman is in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Agency as the investigation continues.
According to agents, since fiscal year 2017, which started Oct. 1, 2016, El Centro Sector seized more than 912.06 pounds of methamphetamine.
