A number of Valley residents will be without power next week as temperatures continue to climb. Some planned outages are expected to go on, regardless of the excessive heat warning.

Christi Kaiser is just one of many Southern California Edison customers who will be affected.

“What a horrible time of year. Don’t they know it’s June? For the last 12-14 days, we’ve had alerts that it’s going to be extreme weather this time, at the scheduled outage time, and I just thought it was a big inconvenience,” Kaiser said.

David Song, SCE’s public information officer, says most outages will be canceled next week. Although some, like Kaiser, will have the planned outage regardless of the excessive heat warning.

“Majority of the customers that had a scheduled outage, a planned outage, will have their outages canceled if it is greater than four hours. Now the caveat to that is if there are eminent implications on our grid reliability or safety those outages do need to proceed,” Song said.

Song also said most maintenance outages will be much shorter than the expected duration.

“I fully recognize a lot of customers feel that they are only having maintenance outages, these scheduled outages in the summer, but as I said before, we are having them year round, and actually many of our outages take place in the winter, in the fall and in the early spring periods. One thing I’m sure you’re well aware of with the Coachella Valley is a lot of winter birds who live in the Coachella Valley part time…it’s peak season for a lot of businesses so we do try to work around a lot people’s schedules,” Song said.
