Extreme heat to hit desert areas

Desert residents should prepare for extreme heat around the Coachella Valley and high desert areas Monday.

An excessive heat warning was issued by the National Weather Service as a high pressure dome settles in over Southern California.

Temperatures were expected to soar into dangerously hot levels by Monday afternoon.

Temperatures could range from 115 degrees to 120 degrees in some areas of the Coachella Valley, 107 in Morongo Valley.
