Holcomb Fire near Big Bear 75% contained
Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire that ignited northeast of Big Bear on Monday. And now U.S. Forest Service officials said they’re looking for some help from the public to establish the cause of the wildfire.
The fire has grown to 1,562 acres and is 75% contained as of Friday. The fire ignited at about 3 p.m. Monday.
Forest Service investigators are looking for some help from anyone who may have been in or around the area of the Pacific Crest Trail near Holcomb Valley Road north of Highway 18 or the Doble Trail Camp between 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 and 3:05 p.m. Monday, June 19th, you’re asked to call (909) 382-2699.
All calls can remain anonymous, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The Big Bear Sheriff’s Department said mandatory evacuations were issued Tuesday afternoon for homes northeast of Holcomb Valley Road and Highway 18, those evacuations have now been lifted.

Highway 18 remains closed between the Mitsubishi Cement Plant and Delta Avenue near Baldwin Lake. Several forest roads including Van Duesen Canyon and Holcomb Valley Road East are closed, as well as a section of the popular Pacific Crest Trail between Highway 18 and Van Duesen Canyon Road.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials said the areas that voluntary evacuations were issued included the Dump, Baldwin Lake, and Tanglewood campgrounds.
Over 1,200 firefighters from the US Forest Service, San Bernardino County, CALFIRE, Big Bear Fire Authority and local agencies are working to contain the fire, and Southern California Incident Management Team 2 has taken command of the fire, according to fire officials.
Seven air tankers are also responding, along with six helicopters to offer air support. KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will keep you updated as firefighters continue to battle the blaze.
