New Hampshire (WCVB) — A New Hampshire woman said she discovered thousands of dollars in holiday gifts that were packed in her luggage had been swapped for dog food.

Gina Sheldon said she was visiting friends in Italy then spent a few days in Paris for business – and bought $3,000 in gifts.

“I opened the third bag which I had all the gifts in and things I bought for myself as well, and it was replaced with dog food, an old T-shirt, a shaving cream bottle,” Sheldon said.

Sheldon guesses the switch happened in the baggage area at Charles DeGaulle Airport in France.

“There was a leather jacket I had purchased for my 16-year-old. I had bought these cute leather wristlet band purses — I had 10 of those — that I was going to give to various friends and family members,” she said.

When she got home and checked her suitcase, she said all the gifts were gone.

“I think the reason they did that because when it goes through the scan as it continues on its journey it looks like a real luggage product.”

Sheldon said she booked her flight through Delta, but it was operated by Air France. She is trying to find out who is responsible.

In a statement, Delta Airlines told WMUR: “We apologize for this customer’s experience following Air France flight 334. We have affirmatively connected with our partners at Air France and the customer to find a resolution.”
