Artists for Ukraine showcasing films at Palm Springs Cultural Center to fundraise for Ukrainian Children
The film community is coming together in Coachella Valley in support of displaced Ukrainian children.
Filmmakers and entertainers with ties to Ukraine have come together to form "Artists for Ukraine," a non-profit dedicated to serving Ukrainian refugees.
Several Ukrainian films will be showcased at the Palm Springs Cultural Center starting Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1.
Actor and writer, Omri Rose, will attend this weekend's film festival. Rose worked on 'Egregor,' a film that is set to make its American debut this weekend.
He tells News Channel 3, parts of the film were actually filmed in Ukraine, "We shot in Kyiv and Lviv. Both absolutely beautiful dynamic cities, which I absolutely hope to visit again. We also shot in Warsaw and we even had a day in New York," says Rose.
All proceeds from the film festival's partnerships and auctions will go towards children that were displaced from the ongoing war in Ukraine.
On top of fundraising for the Ukrainian people, film festival organizers also hope to highlight Ukrainian storytelling.
Cochair of 'Artists for Ukraine,' Gabriel Bologna shares, "We've got twelve incredible movies. You know, Ukraine was going through a renaissance of cinema right before the war started. And we really want to showcase Ukrainian art.”
Guests will have the opportunity to get to know filmmakers and cast mates, along with experiencing several art exhibitions including Ukrainian photo art, paintings and NFTs.
Michael Frydrych, also a cochair for the 'Artists for Ukraine,' tells News Channel 3 about an actress that will be hosting and making an appearance this weekend.
"We've got Ivanna Sakhno who is an actress, she appeared in 'The Spy Who Dumped Me,' 'Pacific Rim' and now she's under contract with Disney, and working on the new, Disney Plus Star Wars. And she will be with us for a couple of nights. And, of course, wonderful directors, producers, writers, actors, actresses from Ukraine, from the US.”
Meet and greets, along with Q&As will take place after the screenings.
Foxter and Max will be showing Saturday, April 30. You can find more details here.
