San Juan Capistrano

San Juan Capistrano is one of Southern California’s most charming and historic destinations—known for its Spanish roots, beautiful architecture, and the famous return of the swallows.

Located in Orange County, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, San Juan Capistrano blends small-town vibes with deep California history. It’s a popular day-trip spot for people exploring SoCal.

San Juan Capistrano is nationally known for the annual return of cliff swallows each spring, celebrated around Swallows Day Parade. Legend says they return to the mission every year around March 19 (St. Joseph’s Day). Learn more HERE.

Historic highlights include:

• Mission San Juan Capistrano - The heart of the city and one of California’s most iconic missions, founded in 1776. Known as the “Jewel of the Missions,” it features beautiful gardens, ruins of the Great Stone Church, and rich cultural exhibits.

• Los Rios Historic District - One of the oldest neighborhoods in California, with preserved adobe homes, quaint shops, and cozy cafes.

San Juan Capistrano offers a slower pace compared to nearby beach cities, with a strong sense of history, walkability, and a distinctly California-Spanish atmosphere.
