September's Coachella Valley Spotlight Recipient is the Alzheimer’s Association Coachella Valley Branch.
The Alzheimer’s Association Coachella Valley Branch is a nonprofit that aims to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia by investing in research, encouraging risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support for community members.
The Alzheimer’s Association has been serving the Coachella Valley for over 20 years with programs and services, outreach and education, and care and support. During the pandemic, community members with Alzheimer's and other dementias and their caregivers have been hit hard. Social isolation, financial struggles, and not being able to communicate safety protocols to loved ones with one dementia have made things even harder. Meetings, events, and activities have been done virtually to keep everyone safe.
The organization will be using the $25,000 grant to provide more care, support, and resources as more people in the community are asking for it amid the difficulties of the pandemic. The grant will also go towards managing volunteers and continuing operations.
The organization has its Walk to End Alzheimer's in November 2021. It's one of its main fundraising events. Funds will go towards providing more support for those in the community. Anyone can participate in the event or Walk From Home and engage through the group's mobile app. Also, coming up on September 21, 2021, is World Alziemhers Day.
