What’s open and closed on Christmas 2023?

New York (CNN) — If you need a last-minute present or ingredient from the grocery store, buying them during Christmas can be challenging. Many stores and services are closed to give employees time off with their families. However, others will still be open or on modified hours.

This year, Christmas Eve falls on Sunday, so some services in banking and mail will already be closed. Christmas this year falls on Monday.

As always, check local stores hours before going out.

Here’s what’s open and closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2023.

Retail

• Most Target stores will be open from 7 am until 8 pm local time on Christmas Eve, the retailer said. They’ll be closed on Christmas Day and reopen to regular hours on December 26.

• Walmart is open during normal hours on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• Best Buy stores will be open from 8 am to 7 pm local time on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• JCPenney stores will be open from 9 am to 6 pm local time on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.

• Macy’s stores will be open from 8 am to 7 pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores will be open on Christmas Eve with limited store hours and will be closed on Christmas Day.

• TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra, and Homesense stores will be open from 7 am to 6 pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• Kohl’s is open from 7 am to 6 pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

Grocery stores

• Whole Foods stores are closed on Christmas Day but open with modified hours on Christmas Eve.

• Kroger will operate on reduced hours (9 am to 9 pm) and closed on Christmas Day.

• All Publix stores will close at 7 pm Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas Day.

• Aldi is closing early on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• Trader Joe’s will close at 5 pm Christmas Eve and close all day Christmas.

• Costco’s Christmas Eve hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm and will be closed on Christmas.

• Wegmans will be closed at 6 pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.

• Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, ACME, Shaw’s and Tom Thumb stores will be open on Christmas Eve at reduced hours. Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s and Tom Thumb stores and pharmacies will be closed on Christmas Day. ACME stores will be open Christmas Day on limited hours but its pharmacy will be closed.

• Many Safeway and Albertsons stores will be closed on Christmas, and those that will be open will be on limited hours — check local stores for hours.

• Vons stores will be open on Christmas Eve and open on modified hours on Christmas.

Pharmacies

CVS said many locations will be open for the Christmas holidays, but to check with local stores before visiting as some may be on reduced hours or closed.

All Rite Aid locations will be closed on Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, some stores will be open from 9 am to 7 pm or 9 am to 9 pm, and the 24-hour stores will close at 9 pm.

Walgreens will be open during regular hours on Christmas Eve, but pharmacy hours will vary by location. Walgreens said all of its 24-hour locations will remain 24 hours. On Christmas Day, Walgreens stores will be open with adjusted hours from 9 am to 6 pm. Stores and pharmacies that are open normally for 24 hours will remain open.

Postal services

Don’t expect US Postal Service mail to be delivered on Christmas, as mail won’t be sent or received. UPS pickup and delivery service won’t run on Christmas Eve or Christmas, but UPS Express Critical service is available.

Most FedEx services will be closed on Christmas Eve, except for Home Delivery, Custom Critical and modified hours for FedEx Office. FedEx will be closed Christmas Day except for its Custom Critical service.

Banking

Most banks follow the Federal Reserve banking holidays, so most teller services will be closed on Christmas Day. As always, you can use mobile banking services and ATMs.

The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will not be trading on Christmas Day.
